A data foi criada pela Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) em homenagem ao show Live Aid

que aconteceu em 1985.

O evento organizado pelo cantor Bob Geldof tinha como objetivo arrecadar fundos para o

combate da fome na África e foi considerado o maior show de rock da terra reunindo astros da música pop e do rock mundial.

Na época, o concerto foi realizado simultaneamente na Inglaterra, na Filadélfia e nos Estados Unidos.
